Honoring our Commitment to Veterans
As one of two military veterans serving on the City Council, I have been a steadfast supporter of the Northampton Department of Veterans Services' efforts to provide vital services and benefits to our city's veterans and their survivors, including our many new veterans returning home from the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

I've co-sponsored legislation supporting our veterans, including a deferment of property taxes for National Guard and Reserve personnel who are away from their jobs and families for extended periods of active duty service, and a policy ensuring that city employees on leave for military service do not suffer economic hardship.

I voted in support of creating a Central Hampshire Veterans Service District, led by our Northampton Veterans Service Agent, to provide a regionalized, cost-effective approach to service delivery for veterans in Northampton, Williamsburg, Amherst, Pelham, Chesterfield, Cummington, and at the VA Medical Center in Leeds. I have also been and will continue to be a strong advocate for affordable housing options for veterans.

I am extremely proud of Northampton's record as a state leader on veteran services. As Mayor I will continue to make sure that we honor our commitment to the men and women who have proudly served and sacrificed for our nation.
