Improving City Services
Like other cities and towns across the nation, Northampton faces difficult economic times and ever-shrinking support from our state and federal government. In short, we've had to do more with less, budgeting our resources wisely in order to deliver smart, cost-effective city services that people depend on daily.

Our city has made great strides in consolidating departments and eliminating unnecessary duplication of services during my time on the City Council. As Mayor I will continue to identify and implement new ways to streamline delivery of services and save money.

I will introduce a program in Northampton for collecting and analyzing data on the effectiveness of key city services to ensure that our tax dollars are being spent wisely. For example, we can do a better job of filling potholes if we know how many potholes are reported, how long it takes to repair them, and how much labor and materials each require.

I will introduce new technology to improve the ways citizens communicate with city government such as social networking and smart phone applications. Smart technology will lead to smarter government, cost savings, and better services.

The city's website should be a more effective tool for communication between citizens and government. I will create a Website Advisory Group to draw on the knowledge and skills of city residents and staff as the first step in improving the site.
